Need to conquer slopes, define garden beds or prevent erosion? McNamara Landscaping & Softfall designs and builds solid, aesthetically pleasing retaining walls that enhance the functionality and beauty of your Dubbo property.
Living in the beautiful Central West often means dealing with sloping blocks, especially in towns like Orange, Bathurst or Mudgee. While the views might be great, that tricky slope can lead to erosion headaches or mean half your yard feels unusable for playing or planting.

A well-built retaining wall is often the key; expertly taming the slope, creating precious level ground for gardens or patios, and securing your property for the long haul. We combine landscaping know-how with structural planning expertise to deliver retaining walls that work hard and look fantastic.
Our big advantage? Flexibility! We build completely custom walls for homes and businesses with no limitations on materials. Choose from options like durable concrete sleepers, natural sandstone or timber, versatile split-face blocks, practical garden edge blocks, or even custom veggie planter boxes!

Assessing the site properly is key to designing the best, most stable retaining wall solution. Help us get started by considering:
Measure the approximate length and desired height of the proposed wall.
Take photos showing the slope clearly, including the top and bottom and the surrounding area.
Note any potential access difficulties for machinery or delivering materials like blocks or sleepers.
Having this info on hand gives us a great starting point for planning your wall. Ready to solve that slope? Talk to us about your project. More info in the FAQs below!
“If you have an existing retaining wall, look closely behind it after heavy rain. Do you see water weeping through the face, or pooling at the base? That’s often a sign the drainage behind the wall isn’t working properly, which puts huge pressure on it. It’s critical to get drainage right.”

In NSW, regulations often require engineering and council approval for walls retaining over 1 metre of fill, or sometimes less if there’s a load above (like a driveway built with pavers and blocks). Rules can vary slightly by council. We always build to code and will advise if approval and engineering are needed for your specific project.
Properly installed concrete sleepers and engineered block walls (like split face) can last for many decades (50+ years). Sandstone is extremely long-lasting. Timber lifespan depends heavily on the type of timber, treatment level (e.g., H4/H5 for in-ground use) and site conditions, but quality treated timber can last 15-25 years or more.
Yes, although difficult access can impact the cost and methodology. We have machinery like smaller excavators and bobcats that can often access tighter spots. For very restricted sites, more manual labour might be needed, or specific material choices (like smaller blocks) might be more feasible. We assess access during the quoting stage.
It depends on the type of wall and the cause of failure. Minor issues on some walls might be repairable. However, if the failure is due to fundamental issues like inadequate footings, poor drainage (which can sometimes be addressed alongside irrigation system work) or incorrect materials for the load, a full replacement is usually the only safe and lasting solution. We can assess and advise honestly.
We help with that! The choice depends on factors like the wall’s height and load, your budget, the desired aesthetic (modern, rustic, natural), site conditions and council requirements. We discuss the pros and cons of suitable options, like concrete sleepers, timber, sandstone or various blocks, during the design and quote phase, considering how it fits into your overall landscaping plan.
